As expected, Congressman Ron DeSantis surged to a win in last night’s Florida primary election, and he will face Mayor Andrew Gillum in November’s midterm election for Florida Governor.
After having a rough start at the beginning of the campaigning cycle, DeSantis rose to first place after President Donald Trump endorsed him via tweet. As a result, President Trump campaigned with him and by then it looked secured.Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Orlando after winning, Congressman DeSantis said that “I’ve been willing to take the tough stands, the principled positions, even when it was detrimental to me politically.”
In response to the win, Party of Florida Chairman Blaise Ingoglia congratulated the Congressman in a written statement, writing that “Republican primary voters have once again chosen an outstanding candidate who will contrast well with what the opposition is offering in November. Ron DeSantis, and the Republican Party of Florida, are primed and ready to bring the message of smaller, accountable government, economic prosperity and problem solving to the voters of Florida. The message will be clear: results matters and Republicans have been delivering results for decades, while Democrats have been delivering nothing but unkept promises.”

He also added that “The Republican Party of Florida congratulates DeSantis on running a positive campaign that resulted in a hard-fought victory. We look forward to showcasing our Republican nominee for governor over the next couple of months, while delivering a stunning blow to the hopes of a ‘blue wave.’”
