In the closely watched Senatorial race between term-limited Florida Governor Rick Scott and Bill Nelson, Scott has so far outspent Nelson in money and muscle, which is something that political strategists have said should alarm Democrats because Senator Nelson may not be properly equipped to win re-election.

Now, in a recent poll conducted by Florida International University, Governor Rick Scott is shown to be better-liked and better-known among the Democratic-leaning demographic. 18 percent do not have a good opinion of the Governor while 75 percent do. The poll interviewed around 1,000 Puerto Ricans, and only 7 percent of those interviewed said they didn’t have enough information to on Scott to give an opinion.

Calculating in terms of net approval, Governor Scott has 57 percent to Senator Nelson’s 36, which is interesting because 57 percent of those polled said they were registered Democrats. Only 12 percent of those polled were registered Republicans.

Governor Rick Scott has placed Puerto Rico as an important part of his Senatorial campaign. He’s made several trips there and has commented that he’s working diligently on helping with recovery as a result of Hurricane Maria. He’s also released several advertisements in English and Spanish attacking Senator Nelson as a career politician who has had a negative effect on the economy.

Nelson has not had a strong enough presence in terms of advertisements.
