Conservative Commentator and Filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza is causing an uproar after comments he made concerning the Parkland shooting survivors. He’s scheduled to speak at the Sunshine Summit in Florida, but now top Republicans are denouncing D’Souza’s comments.
In response to the Florida House voting down a ban on assault weapons in February, D’Souza sent out a series of tweets mocking the students who posted a picture of them noticeably distraught at the outcome of the vote.Worst news since their parents told them to get summer jobs https://t.co/Vg3mXYvb4c

Genuine grief I can empathize with. But grief organized for the cameras—politically orchestrated grief—strikes me as phony & inauthentic

Many on the left were quick in their response, calling out the filmmaker for his insensitive words. Now, ahead of his appearance at the Summit, spokespeople for Governor Rick Scott and Adam Putnam are denouncing his tweets.
In a statement, Ryan Patmintra, Governor Scott’s spokesperson, explained that D’Souza’s “comments were disgusting and unacceptable. The governor has spent a lot of time with the Parkland victims and their families and will always stand with them.” He also noted that Governor Scott has not made a decision over whether or not he will attend the Summit.
In addition, Amanda Bevis, spokeswoman for Adam Putnam, Florida Agriculture Commissioner who’s running to replace Governor Scott as the Sunshine State’s next Governor, detailed that “What Dinesh D’Souza said was extremely insensitive and offensive to a community who had just lost their friends, fellow students and teachers in a horrific massacre by a troubled individual.”
D’Souza did response after receiving some backlash for his tweets. While it aimed at media manipulation, my tweet was insensitive to students who lost friends in a terrible tragedy. I’m truly sorry
