On Friday, Secretary of State John Kerry will be traveling to Havana to officiate the reopening of the embassy in Cuba. The Embassy was closed in 1961 when the Eisenhower administration severed ties with Fidel Castro per CNN.
Kerry is going to be the highest ranking U.S. official to visit Cuba since 1959. He is also the first secretary of state to visit the island in more than 70 years.Ambassador Jeffrey DeLaurentis, head of the U.S. Embassy in Havana told CNN:
This is a very big deal, we are very much looking forward to it.
