On Thursday Governor Rick Scott signed four bills aimed at curbing human trafficking into law as reported by the Tampa Bay Times.
The new laws will require posting the number for a victim hotline in public places, increasing the penalties for perpetrators of human trafficking and preventing the release of victim’s names and the location of safe houses.Scott said:
This is a really good news day. It’s nice to be able to sign these bills, but none of this would have happened if it weren’t for the advocates who are here, individuals who are willing to stand up and talk about it.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Attorney General Pam Bondi has been putting a lot and time and energy into trying to stop human trafficking as well. She formed the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking.
Bondi said:
Human trafficking is no longer underground. We’re bringing it to the forefront.
Several agencies have also received increased funding in an effort to combat human trafficking. One of those agencies is the Department of Juvenile Justice. They are using the money to implement a human trafficking screening tool and placed liaisons in both probation offices and detention centers.
Bridging Freedom also received $1 million. They are an organization that helps victims of children and sex trafficking. That money will be used to fund a safe house for female victims.
