On Tuesday evening, Angela Corey officially announced she is seeking her third term as state attorney for Florida’s Fourth Judicial Circuit Court. Her district includes Duval, Nassau and Clay County.
Last time around, she was re-elected without opposition but since then there has been some controversy. She is being sued by one of her former employees for wrongful termination and in February of 2013 she issued $425,000 in what she called “one-time pay increases” to the majority of her staff. Florida law prohibits bonuses to be paid to pubic employees. She insisted it was not a bonus, simply a temporary pay increase.Back in March the University of North Florida conducted a poll that showed 51 percent of registered voters in the area disapproved of her job performance.
Corey has one opponent so far who has filed. Former Assistant State Attorney Wesley White. White previously ran the Nassau County office under Corey and is well known for winning major cases in the state.

Corey had the following to say last night:
Angela Corey was also appointed as a Special Prosecutor during the Trayvon Martin case by Governor Rick Scott.I think what’s going to be different is we are very confident about our record. Not in certain cases, but our overall record of protecting this community is stellar. I am awed by the number of family and friends that came. This was a very informal invite and I am just awed by this amount of support to kick off our campaign.
