For the first time in history, the White House will be installing steel spikes on the fence surrounding the perimeter. Not just regular spikes mind you. They will be 7 1/4 inch steel spikes, with a half inch pencil point on the top, sticking out multiple inches to create an acute angle and a second layer of spikes will be installed on the existing iron picket fence tops per CNN.
Their purpose: to keep fence jumpers out and the Socialists in. Okay I added the last part but you get the point (pun intended). The spikes were approved unanimously by the National Capitol Planning Commission on Thursday. That vote gave the Secret Service the green light to install them.

Anyone who goes to the White House knows they have snipers on the roof so I do not see why it is an issue. That has worked for hundreds of years.
Regardless, the installation of the spikes will take about four weeks to complete and will line the top of the fence along the north and south sides of the White House. The spikes are only temporary though. They were developed by an architecture and engineering firm and will be replaced when a more permanent fence solution is created and approved. Let me guess: a concrete barrier with electrical current on the top of it?
It is said they will have a more permanent solution by the end of the summer and construction on the new fence will begin in 2016. They are aiming for it to be completed by the fall of 2016 which should be ample time for my suggested concrete barrier to harden.
