It has been one year since Senator Marco Rubio just about drowned his conservative bona fides, when he co-sponsored the notorious amnesty-lite “Gang of Ocho” immigration reform bill in the U.S. Senate.
Now Rubio is enjoying high praises from scores of politicos and some of his past and current detractors, this after he took Venezuela’s Dictator, Nicolas Maduro and all of his government thugs out to wood shed during a Senate floor speech, in which skewered them over the violent crackdowns on Venezuelan student protestors. In the existing Venezuelan community, Rubio is being hailed as a “campeon” for standing firm with Venezuelans, and denouncing Maduro’s reign of terror.
During a recent rally in support for the Venezuelan people, Rubio called for asylum for those being persecuted in that country, an continued bashing Maduro, even mocking the dictator for his claim that the deceased Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez appeared to him in the form of a small bird.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Venezuelans attending the rally chanted “viva Rubio” and “Rubio para Presidente,” which could possibly signal a new found base of support that could help Rubio counter some of that conservative immigration ground he lost after introducing his immigration bill.
Remember,Hispanics are tribal by nature, and tend to galvanize support around “one of their own” during times of need.
This remains to be seen, but considering that Rubio is mulling over a Presidential run, the Senator from Florida is going to need all the support he can get in order to win the GOP Presidential nomination.
Regardless of what existing immigration reform detractors may say, Rubio could be on the winning side of this issue in 2016. After all, Rubio, as I predicted he would do, has already begun to distance himself from the bill, saying that he prefers a piece meal approach to immigration reform, and not an all-in-one immigration fix.
