Congressman Ron DeSantis and his crew bashed his opponent, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, this weekend, saying that the Mayor has done nothing for the rise in crime in Tallahassee. This took place during a campaign event in Cape Coral on Saturday.
In May, the FDLE informed that crime rates in Leon County were the highest in the sunshine state for the fourth year in a row, and the bulk of crime takes place within Tallahassee.
DeSantis noted that “Andrew Gillum cannot keep communities safe. It’s part of his ideology,” and Jeannette Nuñez, candidate for Lt. Governor, noted that her child is considering what college to attend. The crime rate heavily affects where she wants him to study.
She elaborated on the concern, saying that “The safety and security of a city like Tallahassee weigh in on that decision. Why would I want to send my child to the murder capital of Florida?”
Congressman Matt Gaetz, himself running a reelection campaign, added that Gillum is also weak on immigration policy, noting that “Andrew Gillum thinks we should abolish ICE and have open borders and have MS-13 on our streets.”
In response, Congressman DeSantis called himself the gubernatorial candidate “who could credibly say he was not under investigation by the FBI.”
