John Stemberger, president of Florida Family Action, a pro-life group, has thrown his support behind Matt Caldwell’s bid to become Florida’s next Agricultural Commissioner.
Explaining the endorsement, Stemberger noted that “Matt has a 100-percent rating with Florida Right to Life and a recent a 100% A+ score on our Florida Family Action’s Legislating Scoreboard released earlier this week. We believe Matt is the best qualified candidate to help care for the natural resources of our great state and handle the other important business that comes before the Commissioner of Agriculture as a member of the Florida Cabinet.”
However, this comes at a time when detractors have noted that Caldwell was once part of the Never Trump movement by sharing old tweets and op-eds written by him, but Caldwell explains that he held out on supporting the President because he wanted to be sure of President Trump’s pro-life stance.
In response to the unearthed content, Caldwell explained that “I am unequivocally pro-life and of all the issues that fall in a presidential campaign, life is chief among them because the President wields the power to protect the unborn. However, President Trump has proven me wrong. He and [Ronald] Reagan stand as the most pro-life Presidents we have ever elected.”
