Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and Congressman Ron DeSantis took part in a debate held at the Sunshine Summit, and House Speaker Richard Corcoran remains supportive of Commissioner Putnam, calling DeSantis “visionless.”
When asked for his thoughts on the debate, Speaker Corcoran, who earlier this year officially ruled out running to replace term-limited Florida Governor Rick Scott, said that Congressman DeSantis has “a bulldog mouth, a chihuahua a—, and he doesn’t even know what the heck is going on in this state.”
Speaker Corcoran also added that DeSantis has nothing to add to the conversation, noting that “Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, that’s the only thing he can say. At some point you’ve got to come out and give people a Florida vision.”
However, Jose Oliva, the incoming Florida House Speaker, endorsed DeSantis, and he shared completely different views to Corcoran’s thoughts. After watching the debate, Oliva explained that “I strongly feel the gap we started with today in the polls has already begun to tighten. Prior to me making my decision, I wanted to make sure he’s someone who fully understood the challenges of Florida, is fully invested in them and knew the way forward and how to lead. I felt fully convinced of that.”
Though both Corcoran and Oliva might disagree on who should become the sunshine state’s next Governor, polls do indicate that Commissioner Putnam has a healthy lead over Congressman DeSantis.
