Bill Nelson has mostly been on the defensive in his race to remain a Florida Senator while term-limited Over Rick Scott has released an onslaught of advertisements in English and Spanish attacking the Senator for being a career politician and having a negative effect on the economy by not voting in favor of the GOP tax bill.
Now, Bill Nelson is responding to the attacks with his own advertisement, labeling the Governor as “Oil Slick Rick.”In the new advertisement titled “Oil Slick,” Senator Nelson attacks the Governor on offshore drilling.
Carli Waibel, Nelson spokesperson, commented that “The people of Florida deserve to be represented by someone who will stand up and fight for them, and that’s not Rick Scott. Rick Scott has and always will put himself ahead of what’s best for Florida families. Rick Scott will do and say anything to get elected, but Floridians know Rick Scott’s record of cutting public education, refusal to expand health care and hurting Florida’s environment.”

In response, Lauren Schenone, a Scott Senate Campaign spokesperson, said that “The only way for Bill Nelson to present himself as a lifelong advocate against offshore oil drilling is to distort the facts, and the fact is that Bill Nelson not only didn’t write the bill that created the moratorium, he was the only Gulf Coast senator to not co-sponsor it.”
She also added “Now, because of Governor Scott’s efforts, offshore drilling is off the table, but Bill Nelson refuses to celebrate, or even accept, this reality. While Bill Nelson continues to grandstand and distract from the truth, Governor Scott will stay focused on securing real solutions to protect our environment.”
