Term-limited Governor Rick Scott has unleashed a flood on money into English and Spanish advertisements attacking Senator Bill Nelson on being a “career politician” and on having a negative effect on the economy, citing Nelson’s failure to vote in favor of the GOP tax bill.
While some polls show Governor Scott ahead of Nelson by some points and others show them tied, Nelson is confident that what matters is the long run. However, Democrats aren’t as confident as he is. Nelson is being outspent and outmuscled and it could prove to hand Nelson a loss in the end.
John “Marijuana” Morgan commented on the polls, explaining that “Charlie Crist was going to win the election with a week to go, and Rick put in $12 million of his own money, and we saw the lead shrink from three points, to two, to dead heat, to loss. You can never underestimate the power of that money, and Rick Scott has got eight years of doing a job for Florida and that’s also going to be tough for Bill Nelson.”
Jennifer Duffy, a political analyst with the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, noted that Democrats “project confidence, but they’re worried. There are days when I think he’s the most vulnerable incumbent.”
