With President Obama’s DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals)
immigration executive order having been threatened with extinction by the new Trump Administration, legislators have been pressed to file legislation that will address those 800,000 or so undocumented children, whose temporary immigration status is now in jeopardy.
Pro-DACA activists wearing #Heretostay screen-printed t-shirts, arrived in Washington. this week to perform sit-ins and protests members of the U.S. Congress, and “demand a clean Dream Act” from senate members they believe do not support their immigration cause.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R), who has not said if he would support the latest Senate version of the Dream Act proposed by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL), was one of the targeted members, being called out to act on the measure.
“Marco Rubio, will you step up?” -DACA Activists
Shortly after the group of about 30 began their protest in Rubio’s Senate office, Capitol Police arrived to warn the group to not videotape in the common area, and to leave the office.
As the group heeded the police officers warning, one activist stated that Rubio’s office showed a “lack of leadership” for “telling constituents from Florida to exit the office.”
We caught up with the young lady in the hallway outside of Rubio’s office, where he continued making her case for doing whatever it took to garner attention for their cause, as well as to all-but force senators to pass this “clean Dream Act.”
Within moments of interviewing with the Shark Tank, an unidentified non-Latino man shut down the interview.
In the video below, watch how this group shut down communication after being asked about their groups overall position on immigration, and the subsequent claims that their undocumented “families go to jail.”
