After a bruising special election primary season triggered by the resignation of former state Senator Frank Artiles (R), who represented Senate District 40 in Miami-Dade County, the final results of the contentious contests to fill the mini void are finally in.
Rep. Jose Felix Diaz (R)(pictured) trounced former state Rep. Alex De La Portilla (R) by a margin of 58-25 percent in the race to replace Artiles. On the Democrat side, Annette Taddeo also defeated former Republican Ana Rivas Logan by a huge margin of 71-29 percent.
Diaz and Taddeo are set to face off in the special general election in September. Diaz is the heavy favorite.

Because Rep. Diaz decided to seek the Artiles seat, his House District 116 seat was up for grabs.
Former Marco Rubio for Senate campaign manager and Jeb Bush Supporter, Brewery owner Jose Mallea, was the clear favorite to win this state House seat against political newbie Daniel Perez.
While Mallea was expected to defeat Perez, a slew of negative ads fueled by outside political groups portraying Mallea as a tax-hiking, not-so-Cuban candidate, eventually sunk his campaign. Here are the final results per the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections.
