Venezuela has experienced days of protesting and frustration from the Venezuelan people, arguing against the Maduro regime that has continued the oppressive policies of Hugo Chavez. As a result of ongoing protests, it was reported today that the General Motors production facility had been sized today.
In response to this and the continuing human rights abuses, Republican Florida Representative Ron Desantis condemned the seizure and the acts of the Maduro regime. Desantis, a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, explained that “President Nicolás Maduro will leave behind a disgraceful legacy tarnished by his repeated abuses of power and an economic crisis precipitated by his socialist policies.”
In addition, he went on to comment that “The seizure of General Motors assets is a naked abuse of government power that is fully consistent with the repeated behavior of Maduro and the socialist government of Venezuela. I urge President Trump to pursue additional sanctions, as well as other appropriate measures, to hold Maduro accountable and to give hope to the people suffering under Maduro’s tyrannical yoke.”
