As was to be expected, President Trump’s pick of Judge Neil Gorsuch to replace Antonin Scalia in the US Supreme Court is being met with skepticism and criticism from Democrats in Washington.
The US Senate is tasked with questioning and voting for or against any presidential nominee to the Supreme Court, as well as those tapped for cabinet and ambassador roles. While Gorsuch is expected to garner the 52 Republican votes in the Senate, there will only be a few Democratic Senators who will support him when the vote comes down.
One of those Senators that may vote against Gorsuch is Florida Senator Bill Nelson (D). (Pictured with Senator Rubio)
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Back in 2006, Nelson and other Democrats backed Gorsuch’s appointment to the federal court of appeals.
But now that Gorsuch is up for the to judicial appointment in the country, Nelson is sounding very much like other Democrats that do not support Trump’s Scalia-like pick.
“Of course I’m going to talk to him and listen to the Judiciary Committee hearing…“But I have real concerns about what I believe are two of the most fundamental rights in our democracy: the right to vote and the right to know who you are voting for,” he continued. “And I specifically want to know how the judge feels about the suppression of voting rights and about the amount of undisclosed, unlimited money in campaigns.”-Sen. Bill Nelson (D)
When Nelson speaks about asking Grouch about his thoughts on “suppression of voting rights,” it is code for ‘No, I am not voting for you.’
Senator Rubio has already back Gorsuch’s nomination.
Nelson’s vote is crucial for his 2018 senatorial re-election efforts. His likely Republican opponent, Florida Governor Rick Scott, will surely use a “No” vote on Gorsuch against him at every political turn.
