As expected, the Golden Globes last night took any chance it could to jab President-elect Donald Trump in acceptance speeches. Hugh Laurie offered a subtle joke when he said he was accepting the award on the final Golden Globes of all time because those awarding him had the words “Hollywood, foreign and press in the title.” He also added that “even to some Republicans the word association is kinda sketchy.”
But, one speech in particular had social media blowing up.When Meryl Streep gave her acceptance speech for receiving the Cecile B. Demille award, she called the press and the acting community one of “the most vilified segments of society right now.” Then, she blasted Donald Trump for the long running fallacy that he mocked a disabled reporter, and she proclaimed that the creative community needed to come together to protect journalists.
Streep explained that Hollywood was filled with outsiders from other countries and mentioned Ryan Gosling from Canada, Amy Adams from Italy and Ruth Negga from Ethiopia as examples before concluding that “if you kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts!” Those in attendance applauded and cheered for a statement that not only trivializes immigration reform but also demeans the sports community by trashing it as inferior when the sports world is as diverse as it comes.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
As a result, President-elect Donald Trump fired back at the actress with several tweets:
Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a…..

When it comes to the long running accusation that the President-elect mocked a disabled reporter, it’s documented that during the campaign trail Trump used the same gestures to describe people in fear."groveling" when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!
