On Christmas day, Social media was flooded with images of people opening gifts and spending time with friends and family.
The GOP also sent out a statement wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, but things aren’t so simple in 2016.In the statement, RNC chairman Reince Priebus and co-chair Sharon Day, said that “over two millennia ago, a new hope was born into the world, a Savior who would offer the promise of salvation to all mankind. Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new king. We hope Americans celebrating Christmas today will enjoy a day of festivities and a renewed closeness with family and friends.”
At once, keyboard warriors all over the internet rushed to politicize the issue by accusing and mocking the GOP for, according to them, comparing Jesus Christ and President-elect Donald Trump. An argument quickly ensued between detractors and those defending it as just a statement about Jesus Christ and nothing else.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer took to twitter to respond to critics soon after.
Christ is the King. He was born today so we could be saved. Its sad & disappointing you are politicizing such a holy day. https://t.co/NEOkLNd1Mz

the statement also asked people to remember the less fortunate and to remember the men and women in uniform that can’t be with their families.
