Governor Rick Scott announced today that Florida’s Gross Domestic Product increased by 2.3 percent annualized in 2016’s second quarter, which is higher than the nation’s GDP growth rate that is currently 1.2 percent. Florida’s annualized GDP growth tied with Michigan’s annualized GDP growth as one of the highest among the 10 largest states that also included Texas and California.
Cissy Proctor, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director, stated that “Florida’s growing economy is a testament to our efforts to improve prosperity for every Floridian. Governor Rick Scott also commented on the growth by saying that he was “proud to announce that Florida’s GDP growth exceeded the nation’s in the second quarter of this year, even exceeding other large competitor states like California and Texas. Not only is Florida’s GDP growth increasing faster than other large states, but we are also adding jobs at a faster rate, which is great news for our families.
