Florida representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen did not endorse Donald Trump, and she didn’t vote for Trump or Clinton on November 8th.
Since his win, she’s been optimistic about working with the Trump administration, and she’s commented on certain things that she likes hearing from the President-elect.“What President-elect Trump will do is going to be beneficial to Israel because Israel known that, whether you like him or not, Donald Trump is gonna have Israel’s back,” she said when discussing middle eastern foreign policy.
She explained that she was very hopeful about relations between Israel and the United States, but she was more concerned about Obama’s last days as President and what they might hold in store for Israel. She said that Israelis are breathing a “sigh of relief” with Trump’s win and that she’s optimistic the problems in the middle east will improve.

She also mentioned that she agreed with Trump over Guantanamo Bay remaining open. Lehtinen explained that closing Guantanamo Bay was just something for “Obama’s legacy” and not for the best interest of the United States. And she criticized that the time and effort spent in trying to close it could’ve been spent elsewhere.
