Ever since state Senator Anitere Flores (R) was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2004, politicians, lobbyists, and media types had a pretty good feeling that Flores would make her way up to the top of the Republican-controlled state legislature.
Incoming Senate President Joe Negron has tapped his “loyal friend and trusted ally” Senator Flores Pro Tempore. In other words, Flores is his No.2.
She has a proven ability to work in a bipartisan manner without compromising her own unwavering principles. I have complete confidence in her ability to represent the Senate in this important leadership position.”-Sen. Joe Negron (R-Stuart)
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
While she has won the support from her colleagues in the Florida legislature, Flores struck the ire of many in the pro-legal immigration lobby around the state.
Back in 2011, Flores pushed a considerably weak Senate immigration reform bill (SB2040) that eventually failed to garner support in the state House of Representatives.
But aside from immigration reform, Flores has stood alongside Governor Rick Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio on the frontlines in the ongoing efforts to eradicate sex slavery in Florida.Flores pushed legislation in 2012 that Gov Scott signed into law that made Florida a “zero tolerance state for human trafficking.”
Flores will continue to climb the political ladder, the question is, what higher elected office could she be eyeing?
Congress?
