We don’t mean to pour salt into the gapping wound that Rep. Patrick Murphy (pictured with Charlie Crist) sustained this past election night, but the fact that his family business, Coastal Construction Group, donated to President-elect Donald Trump during the 2016 election cycle cannot be overlooked.
According to opensecrets.org, Coastal Construction donated a whopping $28 to Trump’s presidential campaign.Yeah, that’s not a whole lot of money, but that isn’t the point.
Murphy’s losing senatorial campaign against Senator Marco Rubio was anchor on trying to tie Rubio to Donald Trump.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Murphy was relentless in his attacks against Rubio, especially during the debates, where Murphy reverted to answering all of the questions asked of him by invoking Trump’s name.
When it was discovered that Coastal Construction worked on projects alongside Trump, Murphy was also quick to denounce the allegation that his family did any business with Donald Trump, or his company.
But it appears as if father and son did not compare notes about their family business’ past ties to Donald Trump.“A day after announcing a lender, theTrump Hollywood luxury oceanfront condominium has awarded its $150 million construction contract. Coastal Construction Group will build the 44-story glass tower and two-story garage…We are extremely excited to be a part of this project and for the opportunity to continue working with such a reputable and powerful development team…’The tower’s sleek and innovative design is sure to make its mark on the Hollywood skyline, and we look forward to delivering it on time.’ Coastal is constructing another Perez-Trump venture, Trump Towers, in Sunny Isles Beach.”-Tom Murphy, Sr. (South Florida Business Journal. 6/07)
Of the $169,699 Coastal Construction donated in the 2016 election cycle, only $1,329 went to Republicans, the bulk going to Rep. Murphy’s senatorial campaign.
In addition, Thomas Murphy, Jr., personally donated $204,970 to a liberal super PAC in support of his son’s campaign, and to the House Majority PAC, a political action committed focused on defeating Republicans.
Murphy’s political career all-but ended with a crushing senatorial defeat.
