One of the other big races to be decided on November 8th is the Miami-Dade mayoral contest between Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Raquel Regalado.
Regalado surprised many politicos and media types when she force a run-off election with Gimenez back in August.Gimenez was not able to garner the 50 percent vote he needed to win the primary election outright, boosting Regalado’s profile and campaign legitimacy.
This is the political funny season, and October surprises are expected to always be part of every election.

We’ve see all kinds of nutty political accusations levied against candidates, including hot mic videos being released, secret and incriminating emails hacked, candidates being caught buying sex toys, others being accused of sexual harassment and assault, just to name a few.
Oh, and I forgot to mention political parties rigging elections.
To add to this frenzy of political craziness, Raquel Regalado has decided to sue Carlos Gimenez, alleging that the county mayor wrote a bad qualifying check in the amount of $1,800, and then replaced it a day before the qualifying deadline came to pass.Could Regalado’s reasoning for announcing the lawsuit against Gimenez by any chance have to do with the fact that the latest Univision poll in the race has Gimenez beating her by 22 percentage points?
It probably does.
I will assume that Gimenez’s campaign held in their laughter in while they wrote this response to Regalado’s lawsuit threat:
While the likes of Roger Stone being considered by many to be political tricksters, Regalado has become the ultimate “Trick-o-Treat” maven this election cycle.“While we have not seen the actual lawsuit yet, the allegations in Ms. Regalado’s press release are without merit and frankly, bizarre…A valid qualifying check was presented to the elections department before the end of the qualifying period and was cleared by the bank for payment. Nothing else is required by law.” (New Times)
Regalado has been accused of saying just about anything to win this race. She has flung so much political excrement at Gimenez that even the Miami-Herald’s editorial board, who recently backed Gimenez, called her out on her bogus allegations.
“Her campaign has consisted of a relentless series of attacks accusing him of everything from responsibility for Zika to making up phony crime-fighting statistics — neither of which had merit.”
But this kind of arroz con pollo political campaigning is acceptable in the land of Dominoes, cafecito, and croquetas.
