After crushing his opponent in his 2014 Florida state House of Representatives race in the Sarasota area, Rep. Julio Gonzalez (R) has his eyes possibly set on grander things.
Gonzalez’s seat is considered one of the safest in the state for Republicans, so don’t expect him to be going anywhere, anytime soon.The Orthopaedic surgeon has now written a book named “The Federalist Pages: A Constitutional Path to Restoring America’s Greatness.”
The book is all about past changes made to the Constitution, and identifying the negative consequences that have resulted from those changes.

“The Federalist Pages” can also be seen as a guide to recommendations for changes that Gonzalez says are needed to  restore the Constitution to its proper place.
The two major focuses or challenges to restoring The Constitution to where it needs to be are decentralizing the federal government’s power, restoring public worship in the public forum, and repealing and replacing the 16th and 17th Amendments.
In its original form, the federal government was beholden to the states and to the people. Over the years, that power has been eroded away such that, now, Senators ignore their respective states and approve laws that do not have their state’s interest in mind.  In other words, individual states don’t really have an official voice in the U.S. Senate.Also, way back when, the federal government needed to go to the states to raise money to fund excess spending. With the passage of the Sixteenth Amendment giving us the income tax, hat has also changed and that is why we have runaway spending and taxation.
If the federal government didn’t feel that they can just go to their cash cow (the American people) for more money, they would have to balance their budget and spending would be limited. . . the way the Founders meant it to be.
Gonzalez also has some other ideas in his book designed to place “we the people” back in charge of our country, including a measure that would allow Congress to overrule a U.S. Supreme Court opinion thrrough a supermajority of legislators backing the move, and clarifications to the First Amendment.
Yup, Gonzalez with his strong backing at home, isn’t going anywhere, except into the political battlefield to help restore the Constitution and our country. And he told yours truly that he’d be happy to go to your home town to explain it all to your politically conservative groups!
