Latin America’s “axis of evil” governments have been dealt a blow by lawmaker after the U.S. House of Representatives moved to place federal loan limitations on Socialist Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega’s government.
Reps Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R) and Albio Sires (D) cosponsored a bill that pressed Ortega and his government to accept international observers in the process of holding free public elections, if they were to receive anymore U.S. loans.Seeing Ros-Lehtinen’s bill as a way of implementing economic sanctions against them, Ortega’s government fire back at the long-time member of the Miami congressional caucus, saying that she is “involved in disinformation and intimidation campaigns in the media against the democratic, pluralistic, and progressive processes.”
In true Ros-Lehtinen form, she takes aim at Ortega himself:

Ros-Lehtinen then pulled out her judicial text to make her case:
Ortega likes to pretend that his abusive actions are in accordance with international norms, yet Article 3 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter calls for free and fair elections which do not exist in Nicaragua. There has been a clear disruption of the democratic order in Nicaragua and I urge responsible nations in our Hemisphere and the Organization of American States to invoke Article 20 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter to convene an immediate session of the Permanent Council in order to foster the restoration of democracy in Nicaragua.”
Remember, Ortega is the same guy who once traveled to Cuba to received gorilla warfare training from Fidel Castro in the 1980’s, and became dictator of Nicaragua after helping the Sandinistas overthrow the government.
After winning election in 2006, Ortega also aligned himself Fidel Castro in Cuba, deceased Venezuelan Dictator Hugo Chavez, and other socialist leaders in countries like Bolivia and Ecuador.
