According to Senator Marco Rubio’s senatorial campaign, his Democratic senatorial opponent Patrick Murphy continues to duck debates. Murphy has only agreed to one debate thus far.
Rubio has been pointing out that Murphy has a long history of dodging his political opponent by limiting debate or political forum exposure.“It’s not surprising to see Patrick Murphy continue to hide from voters. He has accomplished absolutely noting in the last four years for Floridians, and has repeatedly lied about his background to hide that fact. Florida voters deserve to hear from both candidates in this race, and that is why Marco has accepted eight debates, and is calling yet again on Patrick Murphy to at least accept six.” – Olivia Perez-Cubas, campaign spokeswoman
It’s a smart move to avoid debates if you are beating your opponent, simply because you don’t have to.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
But usually when a candidate avoids debating his or hers opponent(s) it is because they are hiding something like a lack of knowledge on certain issues, and do not want to be exposed to a potential embarrassing “Oops!” moment in front of voters.
Rubio is a seasoned debater, Murphy is not. Both men have served in the U.S. Congress and are privy to information and knowledge on many issues and can speak to them.
But while Murphy may be versed on some issues, Rubio could hold the upper hand in a debate because of his uncanny way of dressing someone down with a seemingly unprecedented ability to remember the smallest details of any given issue. In other words, Rubio has the advantage over Murphy because he has the gift of gab.
