Who’s your daddy?
While Senator Marco Rubio is outpacing his presumptive Democratic senatorial general election opponent Rep. Patrick Murphy in money raised and actual cash on hand, Rubio’s re-election efforts are also predicated on outside groups helping to push back against Murphy-supporting Super PAC’s that Papa Murphy is funding.Rubio currently has $4.6 million in the bank, Murphy has about $4 million, but Rubio is raisin more and spending less.
The Florida First Project, the Super PAC supporting Rubio, has reported to have raised $1.7 million in their efforts to make sure Rubio wins re-election to the U.S. Senate.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The Senate Majority PAC, has announced back in July that it would spend $1 million in advertising in support of Murphy over Rubio.
Is there any coincidence that Murphy’s deep-pocketed father, Thomas Murphy Jr, donated $1 million to the PAC just a couple days before the group announced this ad buy?
Nope.Murphy and his dad are tight. Real tight.
But don’t take our word for it, just read what Rep. Murphy said about his relationship with his father:
“My dad is my best friend and mentor. I talk to him at least once a day, maybe twice a day. I think a lot of people in public service and a lot of people in business are grateful for their parents’ help. I’m no different from them.”
Rubio has recently called Murphy “lazy ” and “privileged,” and in this video shot just last week, where he makes the junior congressman the butt of his jokes, Rubio points out how out-of-touch he believes Murphy to be with every day Americans.
The argument can easily be made that if it wasn’t for his father pouring big bucks into his 2012 congressional race against then-Congressman Allen West (R), Murphy would not have won that contest.
West lost to Murphy by the narrowest of margins.
Aside from Murphy’s own admission that his father is his  “best friend and mentor,” not to mention  probably being his closest political consultant, just how invested is dad in his son’s political career?
As they say, follow the money.
Aside from last month’s $1 million contribution, the elder Murphy also gave $500,000 this year — through himself and Coastal — to a pro-Murphy super PAC, Floridians for a Strong Middle Class. In the 2012 election, Patrick Murphy’s first when he narrowly beat tea-party incumbent Rep. Allen West, Thomas Murphy gave $550,000 into two super PACs supporting his son.-TB TimesWith all the money he has invested in order to make sure his son wins any elected office he runs in, is the senior Murphy just living vicariously through his son’s political ascension?
Expect Murphy to  pour more money into his political investment.
