Former Secret Service agent and New York Police officer Dan Bongino, has made a pretty good name for himself throughout conservative politics, and has become a household name among Tea Party groups around the country.
Bongino ran twice in Maryland for the U.S. Congress and lost. Bongino’s second loss was by the closest of margins to incumbent Rep. John Delaney (D) leaving many of his followers to believe that the hard-nosed conservative icon would resurface and take another stab at public office. They were right about Bongino running for office again, only they were wrong as to where he would plant his political flag.
Back in 2015, Bongino moved his family down to Palm City, Florida, a city right smack in the middle of Florida’s 18th congressional district. This is the same congressional district that former-Rep. Allen West (R), a Bongino ally, ran and lost in to now Rep. Patrick Murphy (D).
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The seat leans a bit Republican, and is made up of a large law enforcement and military retiree community, so why not run for office here?
That is exactly what Bongino intended to do.
But Bongino’s dream of running in FL CD 18 was dashed when double-amputee U.S. Army veteran Brian Mast decided to run in this district and not in FL CD22, the congressional district in which he was campaigning in for over a year.Mast never formally ran for congress in CD 22, but announced that he would run in Allen West’s old seat when he officially declared his candidacy.
The moment Mast announced, Bongino back out of the race he was about to jump into.
But month’s later, Bongino who has said that he still “has one good race in him,” began to seriously consider running for the U.S. Senate seat Senator Marco Rubio (R) was vacating to run for president.
The Bongino for Senate campaign went into full swing behind the scenes and was to expected to launch in the first quarter of 2016, but sources close to the potential senate candidate said that Team Bongino was not confident that they could raise the money needed to run and win a statewide race.
Fast forward a couple months to Rep. Curt Clawson’s announcement that he will not seek re-election to Congress, and enter Dan Bongino, again.Clawson’s seat leans Republican, so why not trek across Florida’s Alligator Alley to the white sand beaches of southwest Florida to run for office?
Heck, it’s so nice and quiet over in southwest Florida, that one of my ex-nightmares and I used to go to Sanibel and Captiva Islands from time to time.
So now Bongino, who has garnered the endorsements from U.S. Senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rand Paul (R-KY), is running for Congress in a three-man Republican primary race. He faces former Ambassador Francis Rooney, local businessman Chauncey Goss, and a shadow group hell-bent on ending his political career.
While all three men pound their chests to being the most conservative in the race, the Constitutional Conservatives Action Fund is out beating Bongino over the head for carpet-bagging his way down from Maryland and across the state to run for the U.S. Congress.
The group is responsible for the creation of the Desperate Dan Bongino website that briefly outlines Bongino’s political history and his exodus from Maryland to Florida.DAN BONGINO IS A CAREER CANDIDATE DESPERATEÂ TO BECOME A CAREER POLITICIAN. -Desperate Dan Bongino website
The group also posted a video calling Bongino a “moderate Maryland Republican” and a supporter of Obamacare, not to mention labeling him as a carpetbagger.
The video also states that Bongino couldn’t name the unincorporated cities within the congressional seat he is running in.
Here is the video:
Here is what the group posted on their website about Bongino’s alleged lack of knowledge of the district:
When Bongino was asked this question at the forum, he defensively stated that it was a “gotcha question,” later telling reporters that it was a planted question by one of his opponents in the race.” At a forum hosted by the Women’s Republican Club of Naples for congressional candidates, Desperate Dan was asked to name the cities in Congressional District 19, Southwest Florida. He named two: Marco Island and Everglades City. Two. That’s all he knew.
Apparently, you don’t matter in Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Cape Coral or Sanibel. (Everglades City isn’t even in the district!)
Why doesn’t he know?”
On the whole notion that Bongino supports Obamacare, Bongino says that there are “some descent provisions” within Obamacare “that we can work with,” adding that “it’s fashionable for us to always throw shots” at Obamacare, and that he didn’t like to do that.
Like most conservatives have done, Bongino has always railed against Obamacare, but points out the very few “provisions” within the disastrous law that make sense, like pre-existing conditions.
It seems as if Bongino may already believe that he is a member of Congress, as the word on the political street is that Bongino has even dug down low and has gone as far as to turn his back on friends and family just for political expediency.
“If Bongino is willing to turn his back on a friend just because it is politically in his best interest, what’s to say that he won’t do the same to Americans living in southwest Florida if they elect him to the U.S. Congress?” -Southwest Florida voter, who wanted to stay anonymous
We have tried to contact Bongino for comment on just about every single issue and story that we have written about the race, but for whatever reason, Bongino has failed to answer or return any of phone calls or text messages.
Hmmm?
