Rooney releases plan to fight the DC spending culture, new ad hits on no balanced budget, no paychecks for Congress
(NAPLES, Fla.) Republican Francis Rooney releases an aggressive plan to combat the rampant spending culture in Washington DC in his campaign to fill the seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Curt Clawson in Southwest Florida. Rooney’s priorities include his fight to cut corporate welfare; to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse; to cut the federal workforce by ten percent; to respect the limits imposed by the Tenth Amendment; and to balance the federal budget. One element of Rooney’s plan was highlighted in a recent ad, which started airing in Southwest Florida. Entitled “Paycheck,” the new ad is directed at the national debt and runaway federal spending and focuses on Rooney’s intent to fight for legislation that will require Congress to balance the budget in order for its members to receive a salary.

“Like you, I’m fed up with Washington. All talk, no action. That’s why we’re more than nineteen trillion dollars in debt,” said Rooney. “Let’s hold the politicians accountable. If they don’t balance the budget, they shouldn’t get paid. No balanced budget, no paycheck.”
According to the CATO Institute, a conservative public policy research organization, the federal government spends at least a $100 billion a year on corporate welfare. Rooney intends to go after the subsidies and special interest loopholes that benefit the biggest corporations with the most connected lobbyists and fight to eliminate the Export-Import Bank, while privatizing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and other agencies involved in handing out corporate welfare. Rooney also will refuse to accept PAC contributions.
According to the Government Accountability Office, the federal government lost $125 billion in 2014 to fraud, waste and abuse. Programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit, Food Stamps, Medicare and Medicaid are the most prone to abuse. Rooney will fight for reforms to improve the accountability of these programs and protect taxpayers from fraud, waste and abuse. The federal government has grown too big with too many duplicative layers of bureaucracy. Francis Rooney will fight for an immediate hiring freeze in the non-defense and security portions of the federal government and then push for a ten percent reduction in the size of the federal workforce through attrition.
“A big reason that federal spending has skyrocketed in recent years is due to the fact that Washington is doing too many things that should be left to the states,” said Rooney.
Francis Rooney will respect and defend the 10th Amendment and shift power and money over programs like education, health care and transportation back to the states so governors and state legislatures can deliver better services at lower costs to taxpayers.
