After running for congress twice in Maryland, losing both times , former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino moved to Florida in 2015 to run for an open congressional seat on the east coast of the state.
After deciding not to run for the seat once held by former Congressman Allen West, Bongino then set his sights on the short-lived open U.S. Senate seat Senator Marco Rubio still holds.Rubio recently decided to run for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
After realizing that he probably couldn’t raise the money needed to run a statewide campaign, Bongino dropped any and all interest he had in running for the U.S. Senate.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
But Bongino’s political ambitions were not down and out, and were perked again when Rep. Curt Clawson (R) announced that he would not run for re-election to his Republican-leaning congressional seat in southwest Florida.
Bongino filed to run for the soon-to-be open congressional seat, and has scored two top-tier Senatorial endorsements from Senators Mike Lee (R) and Rand Paul (R).
While Bongino will undoubtedly be able to pull the endorsements from many national conservative elected officials and personalities, he will still have to raise the money to fund his campaign. This will not be all that easy to do in two months, especially when one of his primary opponents, former Ambassador Francis Rooney will all-but be self-funding his campaign.
Rooney has also been able to score the rare Republican primary race endorsement from Florida Governor Rick Scott, who has made it a point throughout his stint as governor to not get involved in contested GOP primaries.
Bongino will also have to contend to another conservative running to replace Clawson, Chauncey Goss. Goss is the son of former CIA Director Porter Goss, and has run for Congress in this same district once before.
Goss has pretty sound name recognition in the district and could pose a big problem for Bongino. If Goss and Bongino split that Tea Party/Conservative voting bloc, the more establishment GOP candidate Rooney wins.
The winner of the GOP primary race in Florida’s 19th congressional district will become the next member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the state. Here is Bongino’s latest video endorsement from Sen. Rand Paul.
