Republican candidate and state Rep. Fred Costello, is not bowing out of his congressional primary race in Florida’s CD 6 just because Rep. Ron DeSantis (R) decided to run for re-election.
DeSantis was running for the U.S. Senate seat Senator Marco Rubio was vacating, but after Rubio decided to run for re-election earlier this week, DeSantis dropped out of his GOP senate primary race.Costello responded to DeSantis’ desire to run for re-election:
More…“I entered the Congressional District 6 race to serve my community and to run for America’s future, not as a stepping stone toward higher office. Congressman DeSantis’ decision to back out of the US Senate race and enter the Congressional District 6 race rather than run in Congressional District 4 where he lives does not in any way change my focus. I will continue my campaign to serve our community and “Stand Up For America!”

I trust voters will show their approval at the ballot box for Fred Costello, a candidate with a solid conservative record as a State Representative who is focused on the needs of our community and our great nation.
Or they can vote for a candidate who is not a part of our community and has already demonstrated he is more interested in raising his national profile as a career politician in preparation for higher office than serving his constituents as their Congressman.”
“Let me be clear. Congressman DeSantis and I both have outstanding conservative records. This election will be based upon who the voters believe will best serve our community. Nobody is better prepared or will work harder to benefit the residents of Congressional District 6 than I. My record of Congressional District 6 community service is unmatched. Unlike Congressman DeSantis, who lives near Jacksonville outside District 6 and has already demonstrated he is looking toward the next step in his political career, I will be fully focused on Congressional District 6 for the next 8 years should the voters give me the honor of representing them as their Member of Congress.”
Game on? Could Costello give DeSantis a run for his $3 million?
