South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signed a bill into law that makes it illegal for a woman to get an abortion after her pregnancy reaches 20 weeks.
The law takes effect immediately. Now abortions are only legal if they are performed before the mother reaches the 20 week mark. The bill does not provide exceptions for rape and incest according to CNN.Supporters of the bill contended that fetuses can feel pain by 20 weeks.
This new law makes South Carolina the 13th state to enforce a ban. The other states are Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
