Get your quarters ready, slot machines might soon be allowed in Jacksonville!

City councilman Aaron Bowman wants to bring slot machines to Jacksonville and that is why legislation was filed to put a referendum on the ballot in November asking voters if they want to authorize slot machines at BestBet in Jacksonville’s Arlington area.

Bowman had the following to say about the bill:

Part of the reason I’m for this is it’s going to give quite a few jobs to Jacksonville. And also 1.5 percent of the money that they make is going to come into the city’s coffers. And we estimate right now that’s going to be about $5.7 million a year.

Some people think bringing slot machines to BestBet is a great idea and others argue it will only bring more crime and additional gambling should not be allowed at the facility.
