After spending million of his own dollars to win his very safe Republican congressional seat in southwest Florida, freshman Congressman Curt Clawson (R) is calling it quits.
Clawson, who ran as an outsider candidate in 2014, is saying that the reason he is leaving the U.S. Congress is because of his father’s ailing health, this according to the POLITICO.“With the passing of my mom, it’s a good time to show support for my dad and be close to (him).” –Rep. Curt Clawson (R)
This move will undoubtedly cause the same type of vacuum that occured when former Congressman Trey Radel (R) announced that he would step down from this very seat a couple years back.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
So, who will run to replace Clawson?
State Senator Lizbeth Benaquisto may run. Afterall, why shouldn’t she, she finished second to Clawson in a hotly contested special GOP primary race.
Consultant Chauncey Goss is in, saying that he is running because he is “deeply disappointed by the status quo in Washington, D.C. Southwest Florida deserves dynamic leadership and honest representation that is willing to fight the status quo.”Former state Rep. Paige Kreegel, might run again, as may former Congressman Connie Mack, who gave up the seat to run for the U.S. Senate in 2012, but lost to Senator Bill Nelson (D).
But what about Byron Donalds, who is a close friend of Rep. Clawson and currently running for the Florida state House, not to mention being a favorite among the conservative grassroots community in Collier and Lee Counties?
And then there is the popular and uber conservative Rep. Matt Caldwell.
Stay tuned…
