The White House is considering creating a monument to honor the gay right movement in Greenwich Village, New York.
It will be placed across the street from the Stonewall Inn, where the 1969 uprising helped inspire the push for equality according to advocates.As reported by the New York Times there will be a listening session next week in New York. At that time supporters of the park will make their case.

White House officials have said no official decision was made but acknowledges President Obama has the power to create national monuments.

It’s past due for a national monument honoring the legacy and events that took place at Stonewall and the L.G.B.T. right movement in our country.
