With Super Tuesday and Saturday behind him, it appears as if Senator Marco Rubio will be facing the same fate as his friend and former 2016 GOP presidential primary opponent, Jeb Bush, after losing big in the recent South Carolina primary.
Rubio’s presidential campaign is on life support. The latest Realclearpolitics.com delegate count has Rubio trailing Senator Ted Cruz by 149 delegates votes, and frontrunner Donald Trump by 233 votes, leaving Florida’s all-important 99 winner-take-all delegates a must-win for the native Floridian.
One would think that being a sitting Senator from your home state would give Rubio the advantage in Florida come election day, and considering that Rubio does have immense statewide name recognition throughout the state, Donald Trump still leads him by double digits, and Cruz is not far behind him in the latest national and statewide polls.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Figure in that Cruz had a big Super Saturday election day and is expected to surge in the polls going into Florida and Ohio. Rubio’s hopes to win Florida may have just become a political pipe dream.
Then again, this is politics and anything can happen, even a brokered convention.
At this stage in the race, Rubio and Cruz may be looking to pick off as many delegates from Trump, in hopes to force a convention showdown, which would probably give either of them the upper hand with the Republican faithful. All eyes are now on Rubio. If Rubio loses Florida, his presidential campaign is all but over, and his chances of winning any future statewide political races could be compromised.
