On Sunday, Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) became the first sitting senator to endorse Donald Trump. He declared his support during a rally at a football stadium in Alabama.
According to CNN, Sessions decided to endorse Trump because of his strong stance against illegal immigration. It is an issue the senator has also been passionate about. At the rally, Sessions put on one of Trump’s signature baseball caps and said:
At this time in American history we need to make America great again. I am pleased to endorse Donald Trump for president of the United States.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Before Sessions took the stage, Trump referred to him as “really the expert as far as I’m concerned on borders. We want strong borders. We want the wall.”
Sessions endorsement has been in the making for several months. Speculation of a possible endorsement started when he appeared with Trump at his massive rally in Mobile, Alabama last summer.
He also advised Trump as he crafted and released proposals to reform the U.S. immigration system. Last month Sessions’ communication director Stephen Miller also joined Trump’s team as a policy adviser.
