The Jacksonville City Council voted on Thursday to withdrawal two bills that would expand the Human Rights ordinance.
If passed, it would of allowed transgenders select the bathroom that best suits their personal preference.Protesters questioned why city leaders would chose to withdraw two bills that would expand the Human Rights ordinance.
They felt it was a necessity and that it needed to be passed right away. Others felt it should have been left up to the voters to decide.

Council members discussed starting over so they could make sure everyone was included and to ensure the language was correct.
Jacksonville Coalition for Equality chair, Dan Merkan said:
As a coalition, I think we’re disappointed that we are not moving forward right now. People in Jacksonville are still unprotected if they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender and that is a question we really need to resolve.
Advocates were hoping it would pass in Jacksonville because one of the largest cities in the United States. They felt if they passed it here they would have the momentum to make it law in other cities.
