Is former Democratic Congressman Joe Garcia the real comeback kid of the 2016 general election cycle?
Garcia, who lost his congressional seat to Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R) in 2014, is giving it another shot, announcing that he is running for the U.S. Congress in Florida’s 18th congressional district, again. Before Garcia announced that he would enter the race, Annette Taddeo was considered to be the heir-apparent to the Democratic Party nomination in this congressional district, but a recent poll conducted by Public Policy Polling (big Democrat poll firm) paints a very different picture of Taddeo’s chances of becoming her party’s nominee.
The PPP shows that in a head-to-head contest, Garcia crushes Taddeo by 10 points, and that he polls better that Taddeo among blacks, Hispanics, and non-Hispanic whites.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Basically, Garcia is winning with every single voting demographic that lives in this congressional district.
This is not-so-good for Taddeo.
“What you see in the poll is a reflection of the support Joe has received from the community since entering the race. Joe’s in a strong position going into the Democratic primary, leading by large margins across the board, including a 15-point lead among women.”- Juan Penalosa, Garcia’s campaign advisor “who commissioned the outside polling firm to get an independent and neutral take on the race.”-POLITICO
So what does incumbent Rep. Curbelo say about this poll?
Nada (Espanol for nothing)
Curbelo has always been more the moderate Republican, so considering that his congressional district is chalked up a toss-up, a more moderate, less ideological campaign tone will benefit Curbelo.
Curbelo could not be reached for comment due to the phone reception at Miami’s Latin America Cafeteria being so bad. LAC is one of Curbelo’s natural stomping grounds.
