Because of his rise in all of the state and national polls, Marco Rubio knew this Republican presidential rivals were going to hit him hard at the New Hampshire debate. But what Senator Marco Rubio and his team did not expect, was the way in which New Jersey Governor Chris Christie filleted him on the issue of leadership, and by painting him as a D.C. insider.
Everyone who tuned into the debate, including many hard core Rubio supporters, are saying that Rubio’s performance was nothing less than a campaign ending, as Christie ripped him for using the same campaign-style 25-second sound bytes whenever he answered a question. You have to give credit to Christie for relentlessly calling out Rubio the way he did-he didn’t let Rubio breathe.
Rubio did choke, as many media outlets have reported.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
As expected, Team Rubio spun the performance as Rubio just sticking to “his guns on why Obama has been an awful president!”
When Rubio sounded like a broken record by repeating (4 times) the same anti-Obama statemen, and Christie pounced on him, comparing Rubio to Obama, by telling viewers not to make the same mistake made eight years ago.
Ouch.Without a doubt, the one gut-wrenching sound bite of the night belonged to Christie.
It was only a matter of time before Rubio’s recent voting record, or lack thereof, would really come back to haunt his, as Christie hit him hard for backing an anti-terrorism bill, but not showing up to actually cast a vote in favor of it.
“That’s not leadership, that’s Truancy.’-Chris Christie
Even Jeb Bush followed Christie’s lead of attacking Rubio’s leadership.
This was by far Rubio’s darkest campaign hour. But will Rubio’s debate performance hurt him on election night?
If the most recent pro-Kasich Super PAC internal poll is any indicator of how election night is going to turn out, Rubio is done.
The results of the poll of 500 likely voters shows Rubio dropping from second to fourth place.
Again, the only poll that really matters is the one that taken at the end of Tuesday’s election, when all the votes are counted.
