Republican Rebecca Negron has become the first congressional candidate to air TV ads in the hotly contested GOP primary race in Florida’s 18th congressional district.
Florida’s primary election isn’t until August 30, so why would Team Negron feel compelled to push a TV ads so early in the election cycle? The thirty second ad focuses on her career as a nurse, and outlines some of her conservative positions on issue, as she tries to paint herself as the Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. outsider.
But Negron may have a bit of a problem selling her outsider bona fides, as her husband, state Senate President-designate Joe Negron, has been actively working the phones on his wife’s behalf by asking lobbyists and Tallahassee insiders to support his wife’s congressional campaign.

Negron recently reported that her campaign raised $107,000 in the last Federal Election Commission campaign cycle. Negron’s fundraising efforts were bested by Attorney Rick Kozell ($121,000) and combat veteran Brian Mast ($281,000)
