Ted Cruz was the big winner in Iowa on Monday night. He had 51,649 votes. Donald Trump came in second with 45,416 votes and Marco Rubio was third with 43,132 votes.
Trump was the obvious upset of the night. His loss was partially due to his choice not to show up at the last debate. Some Iowans said it was not a good move for his campaign. In regards to Cruz, winning Iowa gives him momentum for the rest of the primary. It will be interesting to see if he wins New Hampshire because Trump has had a strong lead in all the polls.

I see tonight’s Iowa victory as one that gives Senator Cruz a strong position coming into Florida. There is a tremendous lot of work to complete before March 15 though. We shall continue to take each contest one at a time and enlarge the grassroots organizations in each state. Our volunteers made it all happen IN IOWA and we are blessed with a great and growing group here in Florida.
Miami-Dade Republican Vice Chairman and Rubio campaign target, Manny Roman was in Iowa campaigning with the Cruz campaign.
This is what he had to say about the win:
The Iowa victory is a loud and clear message to the Washington Cartel that 2016 will not be politics as usual. Conservatives from around the country are coalescing, and we are not going to let the lobbyists and special interests push an establishment candidate on us.
Roman also said:
We are very excited about New Hampshire, which we are entering with $19M cash-on-hand and where we also have the best ground game among the Republican candidates. I’ve had the great honor of campaigning in Iowa with Ted Cruz over the last couple of days. He is truly a man on a mission who is tirelessly fighting to reignite the promise of America. The highlight of my trip was getting to know his mother, Eleanor. She is so proud of Ted. When speaking with her, you can’t help but notice how she was able to instill great values on her son. I thanked her for raising a patriot.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton was the winner, Bernie Sanders came in second and Martin O’Malley came in third.
Bernie Sanders has vowed to challenge the results. It was the closest vote in Iowa history with a difference of only 5 votes between Clinton and Sanders.
