The new driver’s manual includes emojis, colorful graphics and more concise language. The State of Florida changed the manual in hopes it will improve passing rates on it tougher driver’s license exam.
It was released by Florida’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles on Friday and it is meant to be easier to understand and less intimidating than the previous manual as reported by the Tampa Bay Times. In the previous edition, the first 45 pages were dedicated to dry statutes and regulations. In the new edition an emoji skeleton warns drivers “You Snooze, You Lose.” If a skeleton tells you that, you better listen.
Whereas the manual will be the same length as its predecessor, it will be filled with colorful graphs and graphics.

The updated handbook is a key part of the state’s plan to address driver’s license passage rates that decreased drastically last year when the state introduced a harder test.
In the first two months of 2015, as many as 80 percent of test-takers failed the test. Even when the state made adjustments to the test questions only 41 percent of the state’s 310,000 test-takers passed.
