The “family” feud that has been going on between Miami-Dade GOP vice Chairman Manny Roman and Chairman Nelson Diaz, along with his Rubio loyalists within the group, has come to an end.
In a closed door meeting with Miami GOP members, Diaz did not oust Roman from the committee, rather censured him. A majority of the committee (66-12) voted in favor of ousting Roman. A few of those in favor of booting Roman said off the record that Diaz and others loyal to Rubio were whipping up votes. In other words, Roman was given a reprimand because he personally and openly supported Senator Ted Cruz for president over Senator Marco Rubio, Diaz’s close friend, former boss, and political ally.
Thus Miami Republican politics at its worse, but we all know that.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
During the proceedings, there was a move to remove Diaz from his post as chairman over a picture we published showing him wearing his official Republican Party of Florida badge and a pin supporting Marco Rubio’s presidential bid.
Diaz laughably stated that ‘the blogger who posted that picture is an absolutely unscrupulous individual.’
Diaz also added that he could ‘absolutley sue’ me, ‘but bloggers have no ethics.’Hmmm?
It is obvious that Diaz became unhinged by all of the pressure and push back he received from the picture.
Here is the picture, again.
Diaz stated in an early email that he was tricked into putting on the pin in order to take the picture.
Here is the email that Diaz sent me and also copied another member of the media. So, for all of you who want to throw stones at me for divulging a private email, think again. If the email was so private, why would Diaz have copied someone else?Javier,
I saw your post this morning. I read it with amusement since, as I recall, that button was on me for about one minute. I recall that at the RPOF meeting where that picture was taken, someone handed me the button and I had it in my hand when we bumped into each other and began musing about a potential Rubio candidacy (at that time no candidate had announced for POTUS). In our musings, you asked if I was planning on wearing the button which i said that I was not since I am remaining neutral in the primary. Also in our musings about a potential Rubio candidacy, as I recall, you urged me to put on the button, whereby I did and then received a phone call while you snapped a picture of me (which I thought was unfair and told you so; you specifically agreed not to publish the photo at the time since we were really just musing around and I wasn’t wearing it as an endorsement). Moreover, to say that I am a “huge” Marco supporter is unsubstantiated by the facts. While Sen. Rubio is a friend and I supported him against Charlie Crist, I have gone to great lengths to remain publicly neutral in this contested primary. I have been urged by multiple media outlets to endorse, but I have on EVERY one of those occasions informed them that I am not endorsing a Republican candidate for POTUS until we have a clear victor in the primary. I did attend the announcement of Sen. Rubio’s candidacy as a guest (as I would attend any event that I am invited to attend as a guest, schedule permitting). I have always spoken highly of all Republican candidates and I have not publicly chosen sides in this primary.
Pathetic.
So, I must have used my Jedi mind tricks to make Diaz affix the button onto his blazer, right?
First of all, Diaz is a liar. Nice try though. From what I recall, I walked up to Diaz while he was on the phone and snapped the picture of him already wearing the pin. Actually, I snapped several pictures as I walked up to him.
I jokingly told Diaz I would publish the picture, but after we agreed not to post it. Why post it, there was nothing newsworthy about the picture until now that he decided to embarrass Rubio and the Republican Party by acting like a Democrat and trying unjustly oust someone because they did not support his friend.
After our conversation, Diaz walked off with the pin still firmly pinned on him.
Oh, he must have forgotten to take it off. Again, my Jedi mind tricks probably had something to do with that.
As far as attending Rubio’s presidential announcement, where Diaz states he attended only as a “friend.” The truth is Diaz was invited to stand in the section exclusively set aside for Rubio’s closest friends and family, including his wife and kids, as well as Norman Braman. All other “friends” and acquaintances were roped off in front of the stage.
Oh, and before the closed door meeting began, Diaz was asked if he would be attending the next RPOF quarterly meeting, and if he was planning to attend, would be make a motion to kick party vice Chairman Joe Gruters off the state committee for endorsing Donald Trump for President.
Diaz replied by saying something to the effect that he hadn’t thought about it, or was going to think about doing so.
Whatever.
I understand where Diaz’s defensive posture is coming from. After all, he did embarrass himself, the local party, the national party, and Senator Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign.A non-story became a national embarrassment for Rubio just because a few of his loyalist drank way too much Cuban coffee one morning and decided to turn on one of their own.
As Cubans would say, “Dale!”
