The tide continues to roll on for Ted Cruz in the 2016 Republican presidential primary race, as the latest Monmouth University poll has shows that Cruz has just surpassed Donald Trump in Iowa.
Of the likely Republican caucus voters polled, 24% support Ted Cruz, 19% support Trump, 17% support Rubio, while Dr. Ben Carson plummets down to 13%.The rest of the field, including Jeb Bush (4%), is polling in the single digits.

Rush Limbaugh and many other conservatives believe that in order to win the presidency, the Republican presidential candidate must first embrace the conservative base of the Republican Party, and galvanize them to get out and vote.
In the past, Republican presidential nominees like Sen. John McCain and Mitt Romney believed that campaigning for Independents and middle-of-the-road Republicans would ensure victory, but history had proven them wrong, as that strategy to run as a moderate candidate proved to be a failed proposition.
With Cruz proving that he can garner the conservative base of the GOP in Iowa, evangelicals and other conservatives in South Carolina and Florida, may now begin to side with Cruz, and leave Team Rubio, as well as continue to leave Team Carson.Expect Donald Trump to take aim at Cruz, but don’t think for one minute that conservatives will bail on Cruz.
Ted Cruz speaks to the conservative base of the GOP, and because he has stayed true to his principles, conservatives are far less-likely to leave Cruz, as they are doing with Ben Carson.
