Democratic Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay, who has been scooping up endorsements from prominent Democratic Party elected officials, is no longer the frontrunner in her congressional primary race to replace outgoing Congressman Patrick Murphy (D) in Florida’s 18th congressional district.
The single mother of three, was considered by Democrats to be their party’s best chance to retain the Republican-leaning seat, but has just been thumped from her perch atop the field of candidates vying to win that congressional nomination.Per Politico, Millionaire Randy Perkins (pictured), owner and founder AshBritt Inc., a debris-removal service company, jumped into the race this week, leaving Democrats to wonder if McKinlay’s campaign was just squashed.
Perkins will most likely self-fund his campaign, as will Republican congressional candidate Carl Domino.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
In wave election year for Republicans, Domino, after sinking in more than a $ 1 million of his own cash, ran and lost in 2014 against Rep. Murphy by a whopping 20 percent-the largest percentage loss by any Republican candidate running in a R-leaning seat nationwide.
Domino had lost two previous elections, making the case that just because you have money to pour into a race, doesn’t mean that you will win that race.
While the buzz is currently about Perkins getting into the race, the ongoing buzz in both the Republican and Democratic primary races has been the candidacy of wounded combat veteran and double-amputee, Brian Mast.Mast is everywhere, and there seems to be a very real undercurrent of grassroots and establishment support for his candidacy growing throughout the U.S.
The other big name Republican in the race is Rebecca Negron, who is the wife of future state Senate President Joe Negron, and is on the Martin County School Board.
Because her husband wields considerable influence in Tallahassee, Rebecca Negron is considered by many politicos to possibly be the beneficiary of “special interest” campaign dollars from groups and lobbyist who work with the Florida Legislature.
Senator Joe Negron has already been leaning on people to support his wife’s congressional campaign.
The name of the game in politics is fundraising. With Perkins and Domino self-funding their campaigns, will the Mast and Negron, as well as the others running in their respective congressional primary races, be able to raise the cash to effectively get their message out?Other Republicans running in this congressional seat are Rick Kozell, Carla Spalding, Noelle Nikpour, Paul Spain, and Marc Freeman.
The other Democrats running are Priscilla Taylor and Jonathan Crane.
