Lawmaker’s in Florida are pushing to allow guns on college campuses and the bill in building momentum in Tallahassee.
On Wednesday, the bill received support while in its seconds out of three committee stops in the House. As reported by the Tampa Bay Times the House Higher Education & Workforce Subcommittee passed HB 4001, 10-3.The bill introduced by Representative Greg Steube (R-Sarasota) would allow Floridians with concealed carry permits to carry their weapons and firearms onto college and university campuses statewide.
It is an attempt to reduce mass shootings on campuses which seems to be a sickening trend.

As you can imagine, this is a very sensitive bill for both supporters and those who oppose it. Last year a similar bill was introduced but it fizzled out.
In the Senate the companion bill SB 68 sponsored by Senator Greg Evers (R-Baker) has also passed the following two committees: criminal justice and higher education. Its last stop is in the Senate Judiciary Committee where it was stalled last year.
Twenty states ban concealed weapons on all college campuses whereas another 23 allow universities or colleges to decide there own gun policies. Seven other states allow concealed weapons on campus.
