Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s new VA reform plan is being criticized by Veteran’s groups as lacking substance, but one wounded combat veteran who is still under VA care, Brian Mast, has come out in support of Trump’s efforts to help fix the broken VA healthcare system.
Appearing on Fox News’ “The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson, Mast stated that he was “proud of Donald Trump’s plan,” adding that Trump was spot on in saying that veterans should be afforded the opportunity to receive care “anytime” and “anywhere.”Mast, who is currently running for the U.S. Congress is Florida’s 18th congressional district-the seat former Congressman Allen West lost back in 2012- said that the most recent VA clinic he visited had only set aside one day out of the month to service veterans for “prosthetic care.”

Hours earlier, Mast appeared on Fox Business’ Varney & Co., where host Stuart Varney asked him if he was only running for congress because he lost his legs.
Mast added this regarding President Obama’s call up of 50 Special Operations soldiers to Syria:There is nothing about this that defines my candidacy. I don’t think that losing two legs and a finger in Afghanistan is a good reason to be elected to public office. I absolutely agree that the principles we learn in the military are a great reason to run for office.
If we are going to go into Syria with Special Operations, and do “boots on the ground,” then it needs to look like the sweep that we did across Afghanistan following the events of 9/11…That is simply checking the box, which I think is what the Obama administration has been doing all along with foreign policy,” adding,” If we are conducting foreign policy, to do it in a way that we are doing it to win. So, if we are going to conduct an air campaign, than it should look like “Shock and Awe.”
