The seemingly never-ending redistricting follies that have beclowned the Republican Party in Florida have just been called out as “fishy,” again,
We all know the story about how the Republican-led Florida state legislature, namely the Florida Senate, took it upon themselves to gerrymander the 2012 redistricting maps to benefit their political party. The end result of the lawsuit that followed was that the state legislature had to redraw the maps.
Big black eye for the state GOP.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
A special legislative session called by Governor Rick Scott to redraw the maps failed, and now it is up to the courts to step up to the drawing board.
But before the courts pulls out its pencils and paper, Senator Bill Galvano (R) proposed his version of a “compromise” map that would make both Senate and House members happy.
Here is what was published back in August of this year:But Senate Reapportionment Committee Chairman Bill Galvano added another layer of intrigue Thursday and proposed yet another redistricting map that attempts to appease the House’s concerns by dramatically rewriting the Senate’s final plan.
“It is my hope that this map is something that all my fellow legislators, in both chambers, can support as a compromise, and that we can fulfill our obligation to adopt a Congressional reapportionment plan,’’ Galvano, R-Bradenton, wrote to senators.
Galvano’s plan would leave the district of U.S. Rep. Dan Webster, R-Winter Garden, in Orange County, as sought by the House, and keep 50 of the state’s 67 counties whole. But it also makes major changes to districts in Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties and could end the congressional career of U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Okeechobee
Is Galvano hedging his options of running for the U.S. Congress, if the Senate President gig doesn’t pan out for him?
Rep. Tom Rooney has called out Galvano’s plan to be “extremely fishy,” considering that Galvano’s map would put Rooney’s house outside of his current congressional district, and into a Democratic-leaning district.Calling this plan “extremely fishy” is an understatement. This map reeks of rotten fish.
